SalvAide is a registered
Canadian charitable organization composed
of a network of communities
and supporters that stretches from coast to coast.
SalvAide is the only Canadian NGO with an exclusive focus on,
and expertise with respect to El Salvador. We are a unique organization where caring people can, and do,
make a difference
in the lives of those in need in El Salvador.
Our
mission is
to build social justice, dignity, and economic development
and sustainability with
the people of El Salvador through empowerment.
SalvAide's mandate is to strengthen civil society, promote sustainable and diversified economic development, and to be a catalyst for Canadian participation in the support of Salvadoran rural communities to meet their needs and priorities.
We work in partnership and solidarity with low-income communities in El Salvador
to achieve environmental sustainability, economic self-sufficiency,
and social justice, through empowerment. We work to empower rural communities at the grassroots level, supporting them in project design, creating local leadership and skills, and ensuring that programs truly meet local needs.
We assist in providing the financial, technical, and moral support needed for these communities to carry out their plans. The vision, initiative, organization, and implementation of the projects we support come directly from the communities with whom we work.
Since 1985 SalvAide has been responding to the needs of children and communities affected by poverty. We have funded such diverse projects as poultry farms, dairy herds, day cares, schools, community stores, medical clinics, cottage industries and legal aid clinics.
SalvAide also funds human rights work and organizational development of Salvadoran non-governmental and popular organizations.
SalvAide promotes
solidarity with the people of El Salvador, and social and economic development through: Education, Twin Community Programs, Delegations, Internships, Speaking
Tours, Newsletters, Urgent Actions, Fundraising, Support to our Salvadoran
Partner Organizations, and Development Projects.
Education: SalvAide works to raise awareness among Canadian people about El
Salvador, its culture, history and people, and the challenges they currently
face. Through this education and outreach work, SalvAide aims to promote
solidarity with the people of El Salvador. SalvAide also provides education in El Salvador, in areas such as gender awareness, health, literacy, business and other local development projects that facilitate women’s empowerment, citizen participation and leadership development.
Twin Community Program: SalvAide fosters lasting people-to-people ties between Canadians and Salvadorans with our Twin Community Program. Currently 14 communities in Canada are twinned, or partnered, with rural communities in El Salvador.
Delegations: SalvAide delegations to El Salvador give Canadian people a chance to visit El Salvador
and learn directly about the situation there, and to contribute to the development
projects. We
also organize cross-country tours
of Salvadoran community leaders, so that our supporters and other Canadian members
can hear about the struggle for development in El
Salvador directly from the people who live it.
Internships: As
a part of the CIDA International Youth Internship Program, under the Youth
Employment Scheme, SalvAide sends Interns every year to work with our partner organizations in El Salvador.
Urgent Actions: We
distribute Urgent Actions that respond
to natural disasters and human rights abuses if and when they occur in El
Salvador and mobilize our supporter network to take action on these issues. More information about how we help in response to natural disasters coming soon.
Fundraising: We
raise funds and accept donations from governmental and private
sources, from generous, concerned global citizens like you, in order to support the work of our Salvadoran partner organizations.
