2006 “Fair Trade” Delegation to El Salvador

Experience life in Central America – Volunteer in community Development projects in El Salvador

August 20 – September 3, 2006

This August, you could be traveling to El Salvador as part of SalvAide’s 2006 “Fair Trade” Delegation. There, you will become acquainted with the two grass-roots Salvadoran non-governmental sustainable development organizations that SalvAide supports in El Salvador, CRIPDES and CORDES. You will work with CRIPDES initiatives in San Vicente, as well as, various CORDES projects such as the Coffee Fair trade and Cashews.

What you will do…

Meet, live and work with rural Salvadorans.
See the volcanic beaches and the Pacific.
Learn about the political and social history of El Salvador.
Get experience in development project planning and execution.
Meet rural youth and learn with them.
Learn about community organizing and popular education in Latin America.
Visit the handicrafts in La Palma and walk the countryside that inspired them.

 

Requirements:
Must be interested in: Fair Trade
Must be between 18 and 30 years old
Have a sense of adventure and an open mind.
Interest in social justice, sustainable development and human rights.

 

SalvAide is a Canadian based non-governmental organization which supports
development work and human rights in El Salvador. Working with:

CRIPDES is a Salvadorean non-governmental organization that promotes and strengthens
organizational process in rural communities to stimulate economic and social development.

CORDES is a Salvadorean non-governmental organization that provides
technical and professional assistance to sustainable economic projects.

Fundraising: SalvAide is dedicated to helping the delegates fundraise the
cost of their experience. It will provide all assistance possible (office resources,
contacts, organizational support) to help bring down the cost.

Cost: $1,600
(Includes return airfare to/from Toronto, travel and medical insurance,
tourist card, airport taxes, accommodation and inter-city travel in El Salvador).
