George Sapounidis has been called a poster boy for Canadian multiculturalism,"a modern day Theodore Bikel" and "all around musical ambassadeur du monde".

He sings in nine different languages, and is a virtuoso on the Greek bouzouki. He has performed at five international performing arts festivals in mainland China, at the National Arts Centre, across Canada as well as in Greece and the U.S.

Ever since the Chinese embassy invited George Sapounidis, a tall lanky Canadian civil servant of Greek descent, to perform at an international folk festival in Shanghai in the fall of 2000, this populous nation has not been able to get enough of him. They have invited him back time and time again since then - to the Nanning International Arts Festival of Folk Songs the same year, a Beijing tour in May 2002 and again, four months later in September.

Lead singer, guitar and bouzouki player George Sapounidis (Chairman George) is a Canadian folk-singing sensation of Greek descent. He has appeared at international festivals across China, on stage at Beijing's Forbidden City Concert Hall and at the Great Hall of the People, and on China Central Television. George is a polyglot who sings fluently in Mandarin Chinese and in more than six other languages. In 2005 he was the subject of the award-winning W5 CTV / BBC international television documentary Chairman George. He was Olympic Torch-Bearer and National Olympic Committee Assistant with the Chinese Delegation at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. His CD release George from Athens to Beijing, consisting of Chinese and Greek repertoire, was nominated in the Best World Music category at the 2005 Canadian Folk Music Awards. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematical statistics from the University of Toronto.
