SEMANA DE SOLIDARIDAD CON EL SALVADOR

Únete a la lucha del pueblo salvadoreño
por su derecho a decir
No a la minería y SI a la vida!

Ottawa-Gatineau, 11 de marzo 2010. La Coalición contra la minería de oro en El Salvador de Ottawa-Gatineau ha organizado la Semana de solidaridad con El Salvador en la semana del 21 al 27 de marzo 2010 para solidarizarse con las poblaciones de Trinidad y San Isidro, Cabaña, que se enfrentan a amenazas de muerte y violencia por defender el medio ambiente contra el proyecto de extracción de oro por Pacific Rim, una corporación minera canadiense. Pacific Rim ha puesto en marcha un procedimiento de arbitraje contra el gobierno de El Salvador, exigiendo un pago de 200 millones de dólares en compensación por "el incumplimiento de las obligaciones legales" bajo el vinculante Tratado de Libre Comercio CAFTA-DR. Le invitamos a que participe de manera solidaria a las siguientes actividades:

SOLIDARITY WEEK WITH EL SALVADOR

Join the struggle of the Salvadorian people for their right to say NO to mining and YES to life!

Ottawa-Gatineau, March 15, 2010. The Coalition against gold mining in El Salvador of Ottawa-Gatineau has organized the Week of Solidarity with El Salvador from March 21st to 27th to show solidarity with the people of Trinidad and San Isidro, Cabaña, who face death threats and violence after defending their environment against gold mining project by Pacific Rim, a Canadian mining corporation. Pacific Rim has initiated arbitration proceedings against the government of El Salvador, demanding a payment of $ 200 million in compensation for "breach of legal obligations" under binding NAFTA CAFTA-DR. We invite you to participate in the following solidarity activities:

Across the country people will be writing letters to support the Community Leaders in Cabañas, El Salvador, who face death threats and violence for defending their environment against gold mining extraction. Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador known as the "voice of the voiceless" was assassinated March 24, 1980, while celebrating mass. His death was his final act of solidarity with the poor and oppressed people of El Salvador, whom he defended with great humility and courage.
