Youth Organizing in CUSCATLÁN-CABAÑAS

Project supported by the Canadian Auto Workers /Social Justice Fund

The SalvAide initiative “Youth Organizing: A gender Equity Project” formally started in March 99.

One of the main outcomes of this two-year project is to create a youth organizational structure in order to promote youth participation in community and national affairs and work for their interests and needs. Other important results include a diagnostic on the situation of rural youth, in particular women, and a youth platform, which will be developed through a participatory process. In addition, during the execution of the project, rural young people will participate in activities to raise visibility and social awareness of youth problems such as public events, pro environmental actions, and painting of big murals.

To both SalvAide and Cripdes, our partner in El Salvador, this initiative is of critical importance not only because it will strengthen civil society in El Salvador, but also because it will focus on youth - one of the most important sectors for the continuity of community organization.
